Seven Signs of a Born Again Christian
Do you believe the Bible is the solemn word of God? In John 3:3 Jesus the son of God said, “Verily, verily I say unto you, except a man be born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God.” There are true Christians and Christians in name only! Satan, the enemy of our souls, is the great master of confusion. He loves to confound a person using his wily means of lies, deception, and delusion.
Many Roads to Salvation
The mantra across world teachings today says, “Everyone must see for himself how to attain salvation. There are so many groups, sects, churches, etc. How can I know who is telling the truth or telling lies?” That is because Satan does not want you to come to a joyful assurance of salvation through Jesus Christ. He makes it hard to decipher what is true and what is a lie. If you believe scripture was written by the light of God through the hand of man you would know that Jesus calls himself “… the truth… ” (John 14:6). Jesus, the truth, cannot lie.
Who is Jesus?
Jesus is the son of God who left his glory in heaven for our sake, became a man, bled on the cross for our sins, died, and then arose again to victory over death! So Jesus, who is the truth, the light, and the way, says very clearly, “Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” The first thing you must ask yourself then “Am I born again?” Have you experienced the renewal of heart which is necessary in order to be a child of God? The Bible then gives us seven unmistakable clear signs of a born again person. Everyone who is born again in Christ possesses these attributes. They are unmistakable!
Sign 1. The first sign is that a person knows that he is born again! Your complete assurance of salvation is the first joyous result of the new birth. A complete feeling of peace fills the sinner who has come to Christ. Jesus at the cross received forgiveness of sins and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. You should then be overwhelmed with the fact that you are now a child of God.
Sign 2. The second sign is that the new life becomes visible! Jesus said, “You shall know them by their fruits” (Matthew 7:16) If you are a Christian in name only, then you are embarrassed to confess Jesus! You choose the way of least resistance. The way out is, “Let’s not discuss it!” Obviously! How can one speak of a new life in Christ if one does not possess him? “He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the son of God hath not life.” (1st John 5:12). You must accept the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal savior then show your faith to the world so that it becomes visible who you are. Take solace in this short piece:
Life will be yours by the power of the Lord,
In the blood of Jesus there’s rest and resort,
Your anxious soul will find peace and rest,
Oh, flee to the foot of the cross and be blessed!
Sign 3. The third sign is that a born again Christian has the spirit of prayer! Just as a person only has life if he breathes, he also only has spiritual life if he prays. Someone said once “Prayer is the breathe of the soul.” It is an expression of a Godly life. It is an indispensable contact with the living God. Just as we stay in contact with the ones we love we should also stay in contact with Jesus the one we worship.
Sign 4. The born-again Christian must have a hunger for the word of God! Jesus said I am the bread of life; one who has life from God must have divine food! The word of God is your nourishment without it you are committing spiritual starvation. You cannot sustain spiritual life without feeding the soul. One who has Jesus has life. (1st John 5:12) The one, who has him, must also have the word daily. In John 5:39-40 the Lord states, “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they that testify of me. And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.”
Take thy will and make it Thine;
It shall be no longer mine:
Take my heart, it is Thine own;
It shall be thy royal throne!
Sign 5. The fifth sign is that the born again Christian will suffer much adversity. The born again Christian will be attacked by the devil trying to separate them through sin. The true child of Christ will always be on the offensive against the kingdom of darkness! Ephesians 6 is his armor. He knows that God has left him on this earth so that he will tell other souls, who are still bound. Your yes to Jesus at being born of the blood makes you active for Christ; therefore the devil’s actions against you are still active. Be of good cheer, this is a good sign. Jesus states in John 16:33 “In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
Sign 6. The sixth sign is that the born again Christian will have victory over many temptations and sins. When Christ cried out on the cross “It is finished” he became the victor over Satan, sin, and death. Now all who are in Christ are also victors in Christ. For if Christ be within you who can stand against you? The new birth is no theory of invention, not something unessential, but a tremendous, overwhelming event in a human heart! Jesus Christ, God himself, through his Holy Spirit takes up residence in such a life. He is victorious again through the born again Christian.
Sign 7. The seventh sign is that the believer waits with joy and expectancy for the return of Jesus! We can summarize these wonderful fruits of the new birth in just three thoughts: Salvation – Fulfillment – Expectancy
When you are truly born again you are filled with the Holy Spirit and a living expectancy of the return of our Lord takes up residency in your life. By following world events, especially in Israel, the Lord is talking about in Luke 21:28 “And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.” The Lord is talking about the signs we see today.
Living in Prophetic Times
We are living in tremendous times in which biblical prophecies are being filled before our very eyes! At any moment we can expect Jesus! Three hundred verses in the New Testament tell of this glorious event. Are you waiting for him joyfully? It is already midnight in the history of the world. We are suffering the birth pangs of a New World Order, terrible judgments are coming on the earth after Jesus calls us home those that are his. In Matthew 25:6 “And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh: go ye out to meet him.” And then in verse ten, “And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went into him to the marriage: and the door was shut.” Are you ready? “Verily, verily I say unto you, except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
